McLaren Carbon

In this collection of carbon works I simply had to create a piece from this manufacturer. Synonymous with the use of carbon fibre with their Formula One cars since the 1980s, and latterly with the production of their road cars, they have written history in both sport and manufacturing.

With drivers championships won by the likes of Fittipaldi, Hunt, Lauda, Prost, Senna, Hakkinen, Hamilton and Norris, they have been a prolific team for many decades under a number of guises.

Totally dominating the Formula One championship in 1988 wining 15 out of 16 races, there records stand as one of the greatest periods of domination in the sport.

As a Formula One fan of many decades I felt compelled to recreate this emblem in my own style with added carbon fibre, thus paying homage to their engineering prowess.

The emblem itself is recreated here by my own hand in glue chipped glass and 24 carat gold leaf and backed with a 1mm sheet of carbon fibre

Each artwork is individually hand crafted to order.

The endearing quality of glue chipped glass is that I am not able to control the chipping of the glass, and therefore subsequent iterations of this artwork will have a different chip pattern to that which is displayed here.

This random alchemy is what makes this process so attractive and beautiful and ensures that each piece that I create is a genuine original piece of artwork.

The artwork is created in 4mm float glass and is framed with a stain black frame with a gold sight line to enhance the beauty of the gilded glue chipped glass.

All pieces are supplied with an individually engraved brass nameplate, screwed to the back of the frame. This details the title of the artwork, the creation date, and the collection number.

All pieces are also supplied with an ethically sourced document folder, which holds the certificate of authenticity, an insurance valuation, gold leaf certification, and where appropriate, as in this piece, a data sheet from the carbon fibre manufacturer for full material traceability
