My Art At Silverstone Escapade

Silverstone Escapade, Silverstone, Escapade,

Sometimes lifetime goals or achievements just sneak up on you from behind, one minute they are nowhere to be seem the next minute they are right in your face, right there staring you down, and you cant believe if its real or not.

Well this happened to me recently at Silverstone, the home and heart of car racing in the UK, (yes I know they race motorcycles there also, but that's not my bag) more specifically Silverstone Escapade.

This part of the Northampton circuit "...is a premium trackside hospitality and residential development located just metres from the legendary Silverstone Circuit"... as the website says, between the exit of Copse corner right up to the start of the Becketts complex to be exact.

It all started last year when the Art Director for Silverstone came onto my stand at Salon Prive at Blenheim Palace, I had invited her, but still it was great to see her there.

She stated that she wanted the Senna piece in Silverstone, and I was overjoyed, so we started the process of getting it there, and these things take time. Various events had to come and go, space to hang the piece needed to be available etc.

So as the weeks and months passed and I continued to work on my portfolio, and one piece in particular stood out to me as a natural companion to my Senna piece, ,my Hamilton piece.

Two massive icons of the sport I love, one a public fan of the other, how wonderful would it be I thought to have the two of them hanging together.

So, when my Hamilton piece was complete, I sent the images to Silverstone, and it was accepted.

Cut to a few weeks later and I delivered the pieces, and they were both hung in the stairwell that leads from the restaurant to the outside viewing gallery.

Little did I know at the time, but my two works are hanging on the same wall, sharing exhibition space, with two other artist, who are a little more well known than I am. These being Damian Hurst and Andy Warhol, I was blown away when I was told this.

Fast forward again to mid May and I was invited to Silverstone Escapade to give a talk about my work to a set of invited guests, which was an absolute delight, it's always great to chat about your work, processes and inspiration to interested people.

So there we have it, my work now hangs merely feet away from where my hero's have been blasting past for 75 years, on the same wall as two of the worlds most renown modern artists, ambition achieved, and I didn't even realise that it was going to happen, until it did.
